Thamarrurr Region, Wadeye, NT

The community of Wadeye in the Thamarrurr region of NT has become the largest single wild harvest supplier of Kakadu Plum fruit, with the recent harvest over 5 tonnes and involving more than 200 indigenous harvesters, established through the independently-owned, Indigenous women’s organisation Palngun Wurnangat Aboriginal Corporation (PWAC) in conjunction with the Thamarrurr Development Corporation and Thamarrurr Rangers.

The plum industry is one of the few non-government contributors of cash and employment in the region and the focus on “looking after country” sees the harvest of plums involve Traditional Owners picking on their own country, often as family groups thereby allowing transfer of knowledge and spiritual connections.

In 2016 PWAC achieved HACP accreditation through SAI Global.

The harvest has become a source of pride for the community.
